Create a Personal Development Plan

Your Personal Development Plan (or "PDP") is a road map to life.

Your resume said who you were. Your Cover Letter said what you wanted.
Your PDP says where you want to go, and how you plan to get there.
It's hard. It takes some time.

Deciding Your Own Way
Most of us are tracked. We're tracked by people who told us what we weren't good enough to learn, to do, or become. Sometimes we're tracked by school. Sometimes we're tracked into lives, jobs, or non-careers.

Careers are the opposite of tracking. The word "career" comes from the Latin word "carrera", or roadway. It's a way to get somewhere. It could be your road to where you want to go.

Careers don't happen by themselves. They happen, first, because you decide them. They happen, second, because you understand what it takes to start moving on the road you choose. They happen, third, because you assemble around you groups of adults who can help you get there. Finally, they happen because you put yourself with a group of fellow travelers -- students, friends, members of organizations you identify and join, who will encourage and support your journey.
